The Japan Tsunami
All of us have watched stricken as the toll of the disaster in Japan mounts. People all over the world have been contributing generously to provide the victims with the basic necessities of living. But in the months to come, as the physical suffering eases and the world’s attention moves on, many victims will face mental health challenges related to these traumatic events.
Disaster Psychiatry Outreach (DPO) is a volunteer organization committed to alleviating suffering in the aftermath of disaster through the expertise and good will of psychiatrists. We are currently developing our plans to assist, by providing both online disaster training for the mental health community in Japan and direct services to those affected in New York City.
So that DPO can assist with this and future disasters, we need your help in several ways:
· If you have connections to the Japanese mental health community—either locally or in Japan—please let us know, as we want to disseminate the training as widely as possible.
· If you are a psychiatrist and can volunteer your time in the New York area, please let us know.
· Finally, we need your donations to support these efforts as well as future mission response needs. You can do so by clinking on the Donate Now link at the bottom of this page
